Boise State's Mission Statement
My learners are first graders and it is my personal mission to empower students "to be evolving digital citizens who advocate cultural understanding and global responsibility." Through this project, I was able to empower my students by teaching them a 21st century skill that will make them confident thinkers. I feel like it is my responsibility to provide my students with tools that will help them as they learn in today's ever changing educational landscape. When teaching coding, it opens young children's eyes to how technology works. In a world where they are surrounded by technology, knowing the basics of coding and programming is empowering to our early learners.
Boise State's College of Education Conceptual Framework
"Educators serve learners as reflective practitioners, scholars and artists, problems solvers, and partners." I connect so deeply with this line from the conceptual framework of Boise State's College of Education. Teaching is also learning. Teach is reflective. Without these two important qualities, teachers will not reach their highest potential. When completing this project, I learned so much about myself as a teacher and students. There were very challenging times where I had to rethink assignments and artifacts. But through the difficult reflective process can amazing learning.
